Agency for Energy Efficiency created in Moldova

The government decided to set up the National Agency for Energy Efficiency by reorganizing the National Agency for Energy Preservation which is no longer functional.

Deputy Premier and Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar said that this would make it possible to build institutional capacities for the promotion and monitoring of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in the context of the implementation of Moldova's Energy Strategy by 2020.

Thus, in 2010-2012 the agency is to work out secondary laws on energy efficiency, as well as a programme of training managers of the energy sector for district councils. The agency will have twelve employees.

The agency will be financed by the government, with the national budget for 2010 seeing 800,000 lei to this end.
