Agriculture ministry disproves food security threat in Moldova.

The Agriculture Ministry has said there is no menace of food security in Moldova in spite of some statements about the wheat deficit.

Agriculture Minister Valeriu Cosarciuc said that first phase of the 2010 harvesting has ended. 780 thousand tons of wheat was removed, including 300 thousand tons of the food wheat, which covers internal needs, and also 250 thousand tons of barley, 20 thousand tons of pea and 40 thousand tons of rape.

"We will be ensured with food wheat from 2010 harvest and the 60-thousand-ton state reserve will be provided for restocking economic agents", the Minister said.

The Ministry is expecting a harvest of corn to an amount of 1.4 million tons, which is by 400 thousand tons more than in 2009; 500 thousand tons of sunflower seed (+200 thousand); 900 thousand tons of sugar beet - the yield will exceed its last-year indexes.
