Another two mobile companies to provide 3G services

Two more mobile companies will provide 3G mobile services in 2009 - Moldtelecom, under UNITE brand, and Eventis Mobile.

On December 30, 2008, the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) issued to Moldtelecom a license for radio frequencies to be used for 3G mobile network and service provision and registered the application from Eventis Mobile For a 3G license.

Moldtelecom received the license after paying the license fee of US$8 million in national currency equivalent. Eventis Mobile is expected to pay the same license fee within 30 days from the date of the license issuance decision.

According to license conditions, the company must launch 3G services by August 1, 2009. By the end of the first year of operation the operator is to insure 3G networks coverage and service access in Balti and Chisinau municipalities, by the end of the second year of operation – in Comrat municipality and in Cahul, Orhei, Ungheni and Soroca district centers, and by the end of the third year of operation – in the other 29 district centers.

The Agency issued the first 3G license to Orange-Moldova in August 2008, the second – to Moldcell in September 2008. Moldcell launched the 3G network in Chisinau on October 1, 2008 and Orange-Moldova – on November 1, 2008.

The licenses are granted for 15 years, with the possibility to have them renewed for the same period in accordance with the legislation.
