ANRE will not change natural gas charges for end-users
The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) will not modify the natural gas charges for end-users even if the purchase price of Russian gas for the first quarter of this year was raised.
ANRE director Vitalie Iurcu said that on February 6 Moldova-Gaz SA confirmed the new import price of gas of US$332.6 per thousand cubic meters fixed by Gazprom for the first quarter of 2009.
Iurcu said that though this price is by 17.5% higher than in the fourth quarter of 2008, the Agency will not change the present natural gas tariffs because the price for the next period would be much lower.
According to the ANRE, if the situation on the world oil markets and Moldova’s currency market remains stable, the natural gas charges for end-users will not be modified for a longer period or they would be decreased.
The purchase price of Russian gas in 2008 rose from US$191 to US$283 per thousand cubic meters of gas. The ANRE updated the tariffs for end-users two times – in January and July 2008. On August 1, 2008, the average tariff was fixed at 3,523 lei (without 5% VAT) per thousand cubic meters.
