Authorities will repair up to 13 km of National Roads in 2011
Moldovan authorities will repair less than 13 km of national roads in 2011. The statement was provided by Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru at the general meeting of road workers recently, where one considered the results of activities of the 1st quarter of 2011 and the road rehabilitation process.
He said that about 5 km of the Balti-Sarateni road and 8 km of the Chisinau-Hincesti highway are subjected to repair.
"Also, the Ministry intends to start restoration of 300-km roads at the expense of foreign donors. Of €365 million of means assigned from foreign resources for the road rehabilitation, only €10 million will be spent this year", Salaru said.
The Transport Minister pledged that, this year, one will start more projects and said that he is dissatisfied with the road repair quality in 2010.
"Thirty percents of patches made last year did not remain due to low-quality works. Without projects, we are not able to do something", Salaru said to road workers, adding the Ministry will provide them with support in the project drafting.
"I convinced our partners of investing in the reconstruction of parts of the Chisinau-Giurgiulesti, Chisinau-Sculeni, Chisinau-Ungheni roads", he said.
Also, the Minister said that "billboards installed along national roads will be removed after the terms of contracts, concluded with economic agents, will run out, due to the fact that they draw motorists' attention [away the road] and lead to traffic accidents".
"This year, the ministry will not issue authorizations on new billboard placement at highways. Only road signs must be installed along national and local roads", Salaru said.
Infotag's dossier: The Road Fund on 2011 provides 788 million lei. Most part of the money will be spent on the road maintenance, 184 million - on repairing works, 120 million - to buy special equipment and trucks, and for the Fund maintenance - 474 million lei. The Road Fund amounted 583 million in 2010. The road network of Moldova is 16.8 thousand km; of which 3.66 thousand are national roads, and the rest - local ones.
