BMW group vehicle sales rise 7.0 percent in May
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW)-the world's largest premium carmaker, increased sales by 7.0 percent to 128,408 vehicles in May due to a growing demand for the revamped Mini, informs Reuters.
Sales of the group's retro-styled models breached the 1 million mark in sales since their launch in mid-2001. BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles deliveries grew to 2.1 percent to 580,043 units in the first five months of the year.
BMW has also refreshed the 1 Series compact and 5 series full-sized models in March and rolled out a 3-door version of the 1 Series last month.
This year BMW will relaunch the popular X5 offroader, the 3 Series coupe and cabrio derivatives because the demand for these models is above expectations, deliveries of the 3 Series coupe nearly quadrupling vs. 2005 and cabrio doubling.
BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer forecasted that the overall group sales will rise in 2007 to over 1.4 million vehicles, with all three brands posting delivery records.
In comparison, smaller rival Audi reported a 10 percent jump in deliveries, as VW's premium brand maintained its average monthly sales growth rate of 10 percent thanks to the Q7 demand.
