Chisinau City Hall receives grant of $3.6 million from China
Chisinau general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said that he has recently received a set of documents from State Minister Victor Bodiu on a Chinese non-refundable grant of 3.6 million dollars (20 million yuani). The proceeds are meant for road traffic supervision systems in the Chisinau municipality.
The general objective of this project is "to implement up-to-date technical means to supervise road traffic in order to prevent the violation of traffic rules by drivers." Former Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianii, the deputy prime ministers, Igor Dodon, Victor Stepaniuc and Valentin Mejinschi, and other officials of the previous government signed an official report accepting the grant on 29 December 2008. Valentin Mejinschi was in charge of the project's implementation.
"Although dating back to December 2008, this project came to the city hall as late as now. I mean, now that the new government has been sworn in, they came very quickly, but we practically knew nothing about it before that. It is very curious how documents reach the city hall, after almost one year, but better later than never," Dorin Chirtoaca said.
