The growing trends of the commercial exchanges between Moldova and Romania will go on this year as well, stated Igor Dodon, Minister of Economy and Trade, for the Chisinau press on Friday.

Asked to express his opinion on whether the worsened relations between Moldova and Romania may affect the commercial exchanges between the two countries, Dodon stated that “it is obvious that when it is convenient for economic agents to import and export having Romania as partner, they will continue to do this regardless of the political relations”.

Statistics shows that the commercial exchanges with Romania are growing, in terms of both exports and imports.

"I am strongly convinced that the economic relations with Romania, which is our neighbor and an EU member, will positively develop further, especially that the prices to some of the products on this market are higher compared with the ones in certain EU countries, and this destination is convenient for Moldovan producers", Dodon stressed.

According to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), Romania is one of the main external economic partners of Moldova and ranks second in terms of imports and third in terms of exports.

According to BNS data, in 11 months of 2007, Moldovan exports to Romania amounted to over 190 mln USD, 40.7% up compared with the previous period. Imports from Romania amounted to over 397 mln USD and grew by 26%.  // BASA-Press
