DaimlerChrysler considers increasing truck production in Eastern Europe
DaimlerChrysler is considering a project to build a truck manufacturing plant in Eastern Europe due to the strong demand in the region. The company will have to invest more than E100 million to build the facility which’s annual production will consist of 15,000 trucks, according to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
Head of DaimlerChrysler’s trucks division, Hubertus Troska, said that the company could alternatively expand production at its plants in Woerth, Germany and Aksaray, Turkey.
Mr. Troska said that even though adding to already existing plants is faster, a new facility in Eastern Europe where new markets are developing is primordial. He added that a plant outside Europe was not discussed since the demand was coming mainly from Europe, no decision has been taken yet.
