DaimlerChrysler is not planning to manufacture trucks in India
A DaimlerChrysler spokesman denied the information published in The Mint according to which the company plans to manufacture trucks in India, declaring to Reuters that there are no plans to assemble trucks, and that for now Daimler is importing Actros trucks.
DaimlerChrysler is building a plant near the western city of Pune with an annual capacity of 5,000 cars, production starting in 2009. Some news reports have said that the company intends to widen ties with Indian bus and truck makers.
DaimlerChrysler owns 6.8 percent in India's top bus and truck maker-Tata Motors, and 3.6 percent in Eicher Motors, makes its luxury Mercedes-Benz cars (Mercedes S-Class, E-Class and C-Class) in India and imports other models. Last year the company showed an increase of 11 percent in sales compared to the previous year.
