Deflation second month in a row in Moldova
Moldova faces deflation the second month in a row - prices in July decreased by 0.6%, while in June, this indicator equaled 0.5%.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the inflation rate constituted 4.7% from the beginning of the year.
The price decrease was generated by 1.9% cheapening of food and 0.1% cheapening on non-foods items. In July, services have insignificantly increased in price by 0.3%.
Within the food basket, the most decreased in price the following products: new potatoes (17%), cucumbers (41%), tomatoes (29%), pepper (23.8%), cabbage (22.3%), meat (0.5%), fish (0.4%), sour cream (0.2%).
Medicines, shoes and furniture became cheaper in July by 2%, and 0.4% respectively.
Infotag dossier: The deflation in July 2009 also equaled 0.5%. The Consumer Price Index has increased by 7.6% from July 2009 to July 2010. According to the three-year strategy of the National Bank, inflation in Moldova must equal 5% plus/minus 1%. Later on, the bank announced that in connection with price increase on gas, the inflation rate will be higher than expected at the beginning of the year.
