Digital payment system to be installed in chisinau public transport till end of 2011
The Chisinau Primaria intends to install a digital payment system in public transport facilities till the end of the year.
During the presentation of the 1st bus equipped with the digital payment system on Monday, Head of the Chisinau public transport department Veaceslav Tarna said the digital system will be installed not only in trolleybuses and buses, but in marshroutkas [route taxi minibus] of the municipal routes.
"The initiative belongs to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) that assigned the 13 million euro credit for buying new trolleybuses for Chisinau", Tarna said.
According to him, the digital payment system is aimed at the exclusion of the human factor when taking fare from passengers, who can pay the fare on the basis of a special card or in cash.
"After paying the fare, passengers obtain tickets that can be presented to ticket inspectors within a control. The digital payment system does not cost a lot, and its implementation will allow the municipality checking passenger flows as the need arises", Tarna said.
He said the digital payment system in minibuses may be implemented within 2012, after private transporting companies will adjust minibuses to the new conditions.
