Dorin Chirtoaca explains Alba-Iulia street destruction by poor-quality construction materials

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has said the destruction of the [3-month-ago repaired] Alba-Iulia street in Buiucani sector was caused by the use of low-quality construction materials.

During an interview with the Pro TV Chisinau channel on Monday evening, Chirtoaca said that the asphalt was not of a very good quality, in spite of the fact that there were assigned about 30 million lei for the repair".

"Besides, the examination showed that an insufficient amount of resin was used, due to which the water absorption level is 2 times higher than the permissible level. Besides, the roadway was covered by the 3rd category asphalt, not the 2nd category, as it had to be done", Chirtoaca said.

According to him, the 3rd category asphalt is aimed for covering of only secondary roads and access roads to houses, but in no way such streets as the Alba-Iulia avenue.

Former acting Mayor and Former Minister of Transport Vasile Ursu said that "a Mayor is not obliged to know how one must spread asphalt over a street, and specialists are made for this, and they must go in for all details'.

Ursu said if the project does not provide characteristics of applied materials, and only provides the asphalt covering, one can never find the real guilty.

Infotag's dossier: The Alba-Iulia street (length of 3 kilometers) was repaired by the Edilitate company. Recently, the Mayor said the company will again repair the street if it is necessary, but at its own expense, and he will fire responsible persons in the field if one finds proofs of low-quality work execution. The Alba-Iulia street was put into operation on October 14, 2010 - on the Chisinau's Temple Day. Then, the municipal authorities said the street will not require a repair for 5 years; but many holes and dents appeared at the roadway in 3 months.
