Dutch buses to run in Moldova's capital Chisinau
Van Hool A300 buses are being tested on the Chisinau streets on route No. 3. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the Chisinau administration is considering buying such buses made in the Netherlands. They are about three times cheaper than the German buses MAN, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the bus does not use more fuel than other means of transport, but is about three times cheaper and can be purchased for approximately 40,000 euros. Earlier, the Chisinau authorities bought buses for 100,000-150,000 euros.
The mayor also said that the working life of the Van Hool A300 buses is two times shorter than that of the MAN buses. “However, the tests showed the vehicle is economical and I think the Chisinau administration could purchase several such buses on credit in the near future,” Dorin Chirtoaca said.
“The Van Hool A300 bus is easily run and is very comfortable as the ceiling is practically at the same level as the sidewalk,” said driver Roman Pavel.
The passengers are also satisfied with the new bus. “It is warm inside the bus and it is very easy to get onto it, especially for elderly persons and invalids,” said Valentina Codru, a pensioner from Chisinau..
More than 50% of the 100 buses that run in Chisinau daily have their working life expired. The head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Veaceslav Tarna said the municipality of Chisinau needs about 250 new buses, but even if the Van Hool A300 buses pass the test there will be bought only several such buses as there is not enough money.
