EU to earmark one million euros for Moldova's competition protection

Moldova will benefit from one million euros in financial assistance from the European Union to implement and observe policies in the sector of competition and state assistance.

The proceeds will be given within a Twinning project, which will be carried out by the EU member states Romania, Austria and Latvia.

The project will benefit the National Competition Protection Agency (ANPC) and other public authorities that are involved in promoting the competition policy, including judges, business people and civil society.

ANPC director Viorica Carare told a conference today that the expected outcome of the project is the elaboration and implementation of a new law on competition, as well as the creation and enforcement of a normative framework in the state assistance sector.

Parliament Speaker, acting President Marian Lupu noted that the project fits into the government programme in the context of the European integration aspirations.

EU Ambassador to Chisinau Dirk Schuebel said that Moldova has made significant progress in the competition protection sector in a short period, since the ANPC was set up in 2007.

The timeframe for the implementation of the project is 18 months.
