EU to raise number of energy projects for Moldova
The European Union is ready to increase the number of energy projects, which will be implemented in Moldova in the near two years in the frame of the INOGATE program.
According to the press service of the Minister of Economy, head of the expert group of the INOGATE Technical Secretariat Kiriakos Morfis said in Chisinau at a seminar with the participation of energy enterprises heads, representatives of non-governmental organizations and international financial institutions, in particular, the EBRD.
The seminar was conducted for the purpose of acquainting representatives of Moldova's energy sector with the INOGATE activities and support, which may be rendered in the frame of current and future projects of the program.
Deputy Minister of Economy Ilarion Popa explained the procedure of selecting proposals made by companies and state energy enterprises in the frame of the INOGATE program. Such projects must be aimed at raising Moldova's energy security, transit of energy resources, providing for the sustainable development of the energy sector, developing energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources, attracting investments in regional energy projects.
During the last three years Moldova implemented five projects, aimed at the harmonization of its standards with Western Europe technical standards, harmonization of rules and practices in the energy output in the CIS countries, rise in the professional skills of the regulatory organs in the energy sector.
The INOGATE was set up by the European Union in 1995 for the purpose of energy cooperation between the European Union and the countries of the Black Sea and the Caspian basins, as well as with neighboring countries. The partner countries of the program are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Ukraine. Thirteen projects, which total budget constituted $39 million, are being currently implemented in the frame of the program.
