Eventis Mobile plans to launch its mobile telephony network in July 2007
Moldovan-Cypriot company, Eventis Mobile SRL, plans to launch its mobile telephony network operated in the GSM 900/1800 standard this July, stated Director General of the company, Iurie Ceban, reads Prime-Tass Agency cited by BASA-press.
The director of Eventis Mobile noted that the company plans to attract about 70 thousand users by the end of this year so that it accounts for 4.4% of the mobile telephony market of Moldova. To this end, Eventis Mobile intends to invest about US$15 million in the construction of the network and installation of 260 stations that will ensure a 40% coverage of the territory of Moldova.
According to Iurie Ceban, the company plans to drive average income per user in the amount of US$8.
In December 2006, the Moldovan-Cypriot company, Eventis Mobile SRL, was designated the winner of the competition for the third individual mobile telephony license operated in the GSM 900/1800 standard. The bid of Eventis Mobile SRL was assessed as more attractive than the one submitted by the Russian company Vympelkom, which was rejected.
Immediately after the winner was designated in December 2006, Director of Eventis Mobile, Iurie Ceban told the press that the company he represents intends to invest about US$100 million in the development of its mobile telephony network in Moldova by 2010. Eventis Mobile network is to be constructed based on equipment and software of renowned companies such as Nokia Corporation.
This January Eventis Mobile has transferred to the state budget of Moldova the equivalent in MDL of US$4 million from the cost of the license. The total cost of the license amounts to US$8 million, and the rest of the amount are to be paid in equal parts over the next two years.
According to the conditions of the issued license, Eventis Mobile is to ensure by the end of the first year of operation (2007) the coverage of Chisinau, Balti, big cities, important autobahns and 40% of the population with radio signal using GPRS technology.
At the end of the third year of operation (2009), the new operator is to ensure the integral coverage of the country's territory with radio signal using EDGE technology and 90% of Moldova.
Eventis Mobile SRL is a joint Moldovan-Cypriot company, whose majority shareholder (51%) is Eventis Telecom Holding Ltd. According to Ceban, Eventis Telecom Holding also holds assets in the telecommunications in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The main activities of the holding are: provision of mobile and fixed telephony services, data transmission and Internet access.
The license using GSM standard issued to Eventis Mobile is the third in number. At present, there are two mobile telephony operators using this standard in the Republic of Moldova - Voxtel and Moldcell companies - which paid by US$8 million each for the license.
In 2006, the mobile telephony market was estimated to 1.9 billion lei, and the forecasts of the National Telecommunications and Informatics Regulatory Agency for 2007 show an amount of 2.5 billion lei.
In 2006, the number of mobile telephony users grew by 268.4 thousand reaching the figure of 1 million 358.2 thousand, and the penetration rate of such telephony per one hundred inhabitants increased from 32.18% in 2005 to 39.56% in 2006. // BASA-Press
