Experts advise Chisinau Primaria to oblige maxitaxi drivers to issue tickets
Experts of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives Viitorul (IDIS Viitorul) have proposed the Chisinau Primaria to oblige marshroutka [city route minibus] drivers to give tickets, as it is done in trolleybuses.
At the presentation of a study on the public transport optimization in Chisinau, expert Victor Ceban said that the municipality is not able to watch over the minibus passenger flow.
"Marshroutkas create a competition to the public transport. Despite the [Chisinau] electric transport department puts over 250 trolleybuses into service, and the main public transport department - tens of buses, they can not operate without a financial support of the municipality", Ceban said.
According to him, every year, about 454 million passengers are transported in the municipality; of which 39.6% - by minibuses, 31.3% - by trolleybuses, and only 4.1% - by buses.
"The capital is over-trafficked, which causes traffic jams, exigent condition, fuel consumption, harmful emissions in the air. Thus and so, it is necessary to renew the park, to reconsider the route chain depending on the passenger turnover", the expert said.
He said that the first-priority goal is to develop electric transport, both saving and environmental.
