Gas tariffs to increase in January

"The gas price will inevitably increase but tariffs will be adjusted after public consultations," the head of the National Agency for Regulation of Energy (ANRE), Victor Parlicov, has said.

The price for gas will be 289 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres starting from 1 January 2011, in comparison with 264 dollars at present. Adjusted to the thermal capacity, the price will amount to 295 dollars.

"If the price is 289 dollars, it will be better than we expected," Parlicov said. He added that "the process of public consultations will start on the first week of 2011 and will be carried out in several rounds." The basic costs will be established at a public meeting. After that, experts will analyze the documents from the gas operator Moldovagaz and will calculate losses. "We will wait for an official confirmation from Gazprom, which usually comes on 14-15 January," Parlicov said.

He noted that new gas tariffs might be established on 14-20 January and voiced confidence that the increase will not be higher than the year before.

In January 2009, the National Agency for Regulation of Energy decided to increase the gas tariffs by 13.9 per cent on average, including for household consumers by 16.5 per cent. The price for electricity supplied by Union Fenosa increased by 20.8 per cent, while the price for the electricity supplied by RED Nord and RED Nord Vest increased by 19.2 per cent. The tariff on thermal energy supplied by Termocom increased by 29.2 per cent.
