Greece has formally requested a new loan from the EU and the IMF
By Larisa Muntean/ Chişinău / Moldova.ORG/ --Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou on Thursday evening formally requested a new plan for financial aid from the EU and the IMF, after the value of 110 billion set a year ago, the European Union announced in a statement quoted by AFP.
"Following the request of the Greek government, announced by Greek Prime Minister", it was decided to work on putting up a “main parameters of a new program” which “will be supported by its European partners and the International Monetary Fund”.
Papandreou has formalized an application which was in fact accepted, given the difficulties the country to get financing. Preparatory efforts are already in a very advanced stage.
The request had not yet been formalized. IMF fled in recent days behind this argument to refuse to consider further participation in new aid plan.
Of the 110 billion granted in 2010, loan for three years by the EU and the IMF, at the moment remained about half and money will not be enough. The second bailout, which would stretch to at the end of 2014 will undoubtedly be more than 100 billion euros. It will also contribute to
private creditors of Greece.
"Heads of State and Government of the euro area agree that additional funds required to be financed both public and private".
Greece will have to bear 'many sacrifices, "but this is again necessary to have" a viable and stable economy, "said Papandreou at the end of the meeting.
Declaration at the end of the first day of summit adds that eurozone leaders reaffirm their commitment to ''do whatever is necessary to ensure financial stability of the euro area as a whole''.
