Inflation rate in Transdniestria was 25.1% in 2008

The rate of inflation in the Transdniestrian region last year was 25.1%.

According to the local economy ministry, the food products in 2008 grew dearer by 31.39%, the non-food products – by 18.33%, while the services provided for the population – by 22.52%.

At the same time, last December Transdniestria saw a deflation of 0.46%. The prices of food products fell by 1.47%, of non-food products rose by 0.25%, while of services increased by 0.38%.

The higher inflation stemmed from the rise in the prices of bread, rice, vegetables and fruit, meat and other food products and from the increase in the prices of public utilities.

The rate of inflation in Transdniestria in 2007 was 29.4%. The food products got dearer by 31.5, the non-food products – by 13.6%, while the services by 39.1%.
