MoF believes there may be further amendments to state budget

Moldovan Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta presumes there may well be further amendments to the Law on the 2010 State Budget because the Government needs extra means to cover flood expenditures.

Negruta told a press briefing on Tuesday that out of the 5.17 million lei (US$410 thousand) of donations that have come onto the MoF special bank account, 750 thousand lei has already been used for meeting the urgent needs of flood victims in the Hincesti raion. However, a final figure of damage size and, accordingly, a definition of expenditure directions will be established only when the natural disaster is over and its consequences are thoroughly analyzed.

"We will then determine an exact figure of necessary means and possible sources. Besides Moldovan citizens' and organizations' donations, this will be also foreign donors' assistance, which is already coming into the country. And, certainly, these will be Budget means as well", said the finance minister.

According to the Government-provided operative data, the Prut River has inundated nearly 600 houses, of which over a hundred households have been ruined. High water has annihilated one-third of crops in the flood area.

Readiness to provide help to Moldova has been stated by the Government of Austria, which will furnish €100 thousand to buy corn seeds for re-sowing.

Infotag's dossier: In late June, the Parliament introduced amendments to the Law on the 2010 State Budget, having pushed up the Budget revenue side figure by 1,012 million lei, expenditures - by 263.7 million lei. That was done mostly to reduce the budget deficit figure to 3.6 billion lei (US$ 285 million) or to 5.4% GDP.
