Moldova Business Week aimed at fostering investments in economy - economics minister

By organizing this far-reaching event, Moldova Business Week 2010, the authorities targeted the intensification of the investment flows in the national economy.

Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister, Valeriu Lazar made a statement to this effect at a news briefing held after the first plenary meeting of participants in Moldova Business Week held in Chisinau on 22-25 June.

"The beginning of the event was promising, with those about 600 participants from Moldova and abroad tackling very challenging subjects for attracting investments in Moldova's economy. More than half of the participants were from 19 countries, among which Austria, Romania, Belarus, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the USA, Switzerland, Russia, Portugal, etc," Valeriu Lazar stressed.

Lazar emphasized the opportunity to woo investments to carry out the reforms initiated by the government, develop the economy, create new jobs, etc. "The foreign investors will convince themselves that Moldova has people with European opinions, very active business people, concrete investment projects in different fields, etc." the economics minister said.

Valeriu Lazar voiced conviction that cooperation contracts between Moldovan and foreign business people will be initiated within roundtables and other activities, due to be held within the event.

The deputy prime minister said that the direct foreign investments in Moldova are presently estimated at 2.6 billion dollars. Referring to the country's top economic partners - Russia and Romania - Valeriu Lazar said that these states' share in the overall investments is of 7.7 and respectively 6.6 per cent.
