Moldova: CEO, other bankers at Investprivatbank arrested
The president of the bankrupt bank ‘Investprivatbank’, Ivan Carpalov, was arrested on Monday, 22 June, together with other employees of the bank. They are suspected of the violation of ‘legislation on crediting rules’.
‘The president of ‘Investprivatbank’ is now in the isolator of the Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCECC). On Monday, the law court issued a bench warrant for 25 days on his name, Angela Stavinschi, spokesperson at the Anti-corruption Centre’ declared.
She refused to say the name of the other two arrested employees of ‘Investprivatbank’.
For the infractions Ivan Carpalov is suspected, the legislation provides a fine of up to 60 thousand MDL or prison of up to seven years.
In both cases, he will be deprived of the right to work in management functions.
On 19 June, the National Bank of Moldova withdrew the licence of the commercial bank ‘Investprivatbank’, calling the expert of the National Bank of Moldova, Ion Ropot, a liquidator, according to the Law of financial institutions.
Tens of depositors of the bankrupt bank protested on Monday at the headquarters of the institution asking for the payment of deposits.
