Moldova cut volume of gas bought from Russian Gazprom in 2009
Moldova (without the Transnistrian region) bought 1.126,3 million cubic metres of gas from the Russian concern Gazprom in 2009, which is by 8.2 per cent less against 2008, according to a report by the National Agency for Regulation of Energy (ANRE).
The report shows that, last year, the average purchasing price for gas in dollars increased 13.6 per cent: from 232.3 dollars/1,000 cubic metres in 2008 to 263.9 dollars/1,000 cubic metres in 2009. For its part, the average tariff for the delivery of gas to consumers increased by 10.4 per cent: from 3,187 lei to 3,517 lei for 1,000 cubic metres. At the same time, because of the cut of the gas consumption, the income got by the stock company Moldovagaz from the supply of gas went up by only 0.5 per cent: from 3.603,4 million lei to 3.622,3 million lei. Thus, in 2009, the gas consumption dropped by 8.9 per cent against 2008, and amounted to 1,030 million cubic metres.
This evolution was triggered mainly by a diminution of the gas consumption by the energy sector enterprises, as well as by other economic agents. At the same time, on the concerned period, the budgetary institutions and household consumers increased the consumption significantly.
ANRE's report also shows that the lowest annual consumption of gas recorded in 2005-2009 was registered in 2009. In this year, only two of those 12 distribution enterprises of Moldovagaz stock company insignificantly increased the volume of gas supplied to consumers.
