Moldova gets 13 million euro from EU for the Transnistrian region

By Valeriu Gonta / Chisinau / Moldova.org / -- The government of the Republic of Moldova has signed today the Financial Agreement between Moldova and the European Union regarding the “Measures for strengthening the trust.” The document was signed by the prime-minister of Moldova, Vlad Filat and by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel.

Such an agreement is designed to support the efforts of the Moldovan government in strengthening the trust among the citizens on both banks of Nistru River. The budget of the program is about 13.1 million euro. Over 12 million euro come as irredeemable European funds. The project is sponsored for a period of 5 years.

The main goal of the project is to support the management of the Transnistrian conflict through social and economic development of the local communities. The premier welcomed the European funds and is optimist that new reforms will be made.

“The governing program implies well-defined actions, social and infrastructure projects in the Eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova which will create real conditions for the development of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova,” said Vlad Filat.

Dirk Schuebel has stated that Moldova registered improvements in the conflict resolution process of Transnistria, especially after restarting the official “5+2 format” bargaining. The Head of the Delegation of the EU to Moldova specified that the European financial assistance isn’t only for the Transnistrian region of Moldova, but for the whole country, and all the citizens will fully benefit from the projects implemented.
