Moldova obtains 1 million euros within twinning project on intellectual property rights
Moldova has obtained a technical assistance to an amount of 1 million euros in the field of the intellectual property rights observance in connection with the national legislation approximation to the European legislation. The assistance was provided within the Twinning project - Support for the Implementation and Observance of Intellectual Property Rights in Moldova - financed by the European Union and that will last 18 months - till April 2012.
During the project presentation on Tuesday, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said it is aimed at the Government approaching with those who are responsible for the intellectual property rights protection.
"The most important for consumers and for the economy is the risk of the counterfeit goods appearance at the market. It undermines the country image, causes the tax evasion, negatively influences the tax system", he said, adding the Twining project was created for supporting countries that are not the EU members.
According to Romanian Ambassador in Moldova Marius Lazurca, Romania hopes for the Moldova integration in the EU.
Deputy State Minister Eduard Banariuc said the Twinning project will facilitate the negotiations on the Moldova-EU association.
Deputy Director of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) Svetlana Munteanu said the aid will be provided by the Patent and Trademark Office of Denmark, and also the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks of Romania (OSIM).
"The aid includes the exchanges with specialists, information, European legislation translation, new partnership perspectives", she said.
The project purpose is to implement and to observe the intellectual property rights in conformity with the Moldova-EU action program conditions, and also to strengthen administrative abilities of AGEPI, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and of the Customs Service.
Infotag's dossier: Twinning is the EU project for countries aspiring to join the union. The official launch of the first Twinning project in Moldova took place in 2008. The supporting program benefits were already provided to the Parliament, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Agency for Competition Protection, the Agency for Material Sources, State Purchases and Humanitarian Aid, penitentiary institutions.
