Moldova: Ribnita winery to start production of whisky for European market
The Ribnita wine factory is going to start the production of whisky, which is "one of the most respected by the European society products", declared the plant director, Mihail Perciun.
According to Infotag, Perciun said the project is almost ready for the reconstruction and creation of this type of production and the equipment is already ordered.
According to him, the main direction of the plant is to conquer the European market with their new products and to build their own resource base.
He said that the factory was reborn in 2005 when it was privatized. Until then, the factory worked at only 30% of their full potential. According to the contract, the new owner, Sheriff Company, invested 9.5 million Transnistrian rubles (US$ 1 million) in the wine factory and transformed the factory into the Ribnita subdivision of the KVINT wine and brandy company of Tiraspol.
The factory installed a new Italian technology of bottling wine and vodka production, and launched a new brand - "Rashkov" brandy, that has already been awarded on international contests. A specialized room was built and French oak barrels for brandy maturing were purchased.
Perciun mentioned that the factory pays a special attention to the vineyards restoration. A half of a 500 hectares territory was planted with grapes and if there were no morning frosts, yields would be collected this year.
Last year, the Ribnita wine and brandy factory marked its 75 anniversary. In 2005, Sheriff Company acquired the factory for only US$ 250 thousand. Sheriff is the major Transnistrian owner of gas stations and supermarkets, as well as of KVINT wine factory. Moreover, the company is the major stakeholder of "AgroPromBank", "Tirotez" textile plant, and "Moldavizolit" plant. Sheriff privatized the Tiraspol bread factory and cereals' products factory, built the biggest stadium in the region and established the salmon growing and caviar production in Transnistria.
