Moldova to receive 90-million-euro grant for infrastructure projects, budget
The European Union has approved an action plan on the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldova's citizens. Prime Minister Vlad Filat made this announcement upon his return from a visit to Brussels.
Filat said that the document was completed and signed on 16 December evening, and European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom will soon hand it to the Moldovan government. The prime minister avoided giving details on this plan. Yet, he congratulated all the Moldovan people on this success.
"The European commissioner for internal affairs will hand this action plan to the Moldovan cabinet so as to shift to the phase of implementation via concrete steps. Its goal is that the Moldovans benefit from a visa free regime as soon as possible," Filat said.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat added that, during his visit to Brussels, another agreement was signed. Under this document, Moldova will receive a grant worth 90 million euros for different infrastructure projects and the budget. The first installment, amounting to 40 million euros, will reach Moldova early next week, and the rest in 2011.
Vlad Filat described the visit to Brussels as one with concrete results. Filat said that he met many European officials who reiterated their support for Moldova, noting that the European path needs to be continued.
