Moldova to resume electricity imports from Ukraine
The issue of resuming the purchase of electric power from Ukraine will be solved in the near time, Prime Minister Vlad Filat declared on Monday in the course of his visit to Kiev.
According to the Ukrainian mass media, he confirmed that the talks on acquiring electric energy will continue and this problem will soon be solved.
As Infotag has already reported, before 2009 Moldova purchased almost 3/4 of the consumed energy from Ukraine. However, in virtue of the price disagreement, from January 1, 2009 Moldova resumed purchasing electric energy from the Moldovan Regional Power Station at 5.83 American cents per kWh. This contract will expire in March 2010.
Before Ukraine stopped exporting electric power to Moldova, its annual exports to our country accounted for about 250 million kWh and from January 1, 2009 it exports yearly only 7 million kWh to Moldova. Because of the Chisinau's refusal to buy Ukrainian electric energy its exports fell almost two-fold.
