Moldova, Turkey sign cooperation programme on food security
The Moldovan Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Turkish Administration for Cooperation and Development (TIKA) today signed a cooperation agreement titled "Programme supporting food security". The document was signed by Moldovan newly-appointed Agriculture Minister Vasile Bumacov and by the head of the TIKA external cooperation department, Selda Ozdenoglu.
The programme is meant to foster the increase in profits of Moldovans for whom agriculture and animal breeding are the main income sources.
After the signing ceremony, Vasile Bumacov said "This is the first serious step in our cooperation with the Turkish side. The financing sources for the project are to be established."
For his part, the Turkish official said that the project is seen for a three-year period. "Only in 2011, Turkey will allot 500,000 euros within this project. For TIKA, the experience gained in Moldova is important, as Moldova is among the first countries where the Turkish administration began its activity," he said.
The organization of a seminar on food security in Moldova on 17-19 January is regarded as a first stage of this cooperation project. The goal of this workshop is to form competitive specialists in food security.
Among other activities of the programme there are the improvement of the situation in sheep and cattle breeding, amelioration and reproduction of animals by livestock breeding and the reorganization of the milk industry.
