Moldovagaz losses due to new tariff non-adoption go up 2.5 million lei every day

The losses of the Moldovagaz natural gas supplying enterprise exceeded 40 million lei within first 16 days of 2011.

According to the company press service, every day of the gas provision at former tariffs increases the losses by 2.5 million lei.

A representative of the company press service said the Moldovagaz leadership has repeatedly submitted to the National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova (ANRE) a request on speeding up the new rate adoption "for the purpose to stop the accumulation of financial losses and, respectively, the increase of debts to Gazprom, which will be born by consumers eventually".

According to the representative, Moldovagaz understands the difficult economic situation in the country, but considers it is necessary to increase tariffs for ensuring a timely repayment to the provider, controlling the stability and safety of gas supplies and transit".

The enterprise said that the tariff increase is caused, mostly, by the growth of the average expected price on the imported gas, which has been US$293.8 per 1 thousand cubic meters (taking into account the caloric value) since January 1, 2011 - it is 11.7% more the existing price (US$262.95). The average annual gas purchase price may reach US$307.55.

Moldovagaz reminds about the fact that the country buys the Russian natural gas at the average European price from the beginning of 2011, but the tariff for population is still the lowest in the Europe.

Infotag's dossier: The ANRE will conduct today public hearings concerning the gas rate changing, according to which the decision on increase can be adopted till the end of the week.
