Moldovan acting president says leadership backs any investment

''I support any investment in Moldova, as this will allow us restoring the national economy and carrying out the reforms initiated by the Alliance for European Integration (AIE). Moreover, I will do my utmost so that the investors wishing to come to Moldova face no problems in their activity.''

Acting President, Parliament Speaker Mihai Ghimpu made this statement at a yesterday's working meeting with a delegation of the European Academy for International Economic Relations, headed by Ernesto Carpintieri, the presidential press service has said.

President Mihai Ghimpu welcomed the idea of the Academy creating an agency of Italian entrepreneurs wishing to invest in different fields in Moldova. The head of state said that the achievement of the objectives set by the AIE in its action programme may be attained only by restoring the economy. He added that this may be done only by investing in all the social and economic branches. "The reforms implemented by the Alliance for European Integration prove that Moldova becomes a free and stable state, in which one may invest, without being afraid for the made investments," Mihai Ghimpu said.

For his part, Ernesto Carpintieri said that, by the creation of this agency, the Academy wants to become an institution which brings investments to Moldova not only from Italy, but also from other EU member states. "We are sure that it is the most appropriate moment for investing in Moldova now, as the present state leadership creates the necessary conditions for this, and there is a wide ground for investments. I think that in five years it will be late, as everything will be taken then," Carpintieri stressed.

Ernesto Carpintieri also said that the first investments in Moldova's economy, through the agency which is to be created, will be made in early 2011, with the most important fields being the agricultural ones.

The sides also tackled the issue of abolishing the impact of the floods which hit several Moldovan districts. President Mihai Ghimpu said that the Moldovan authorities called on the international community to help overcome this situation.

Attending the meeting, Italian Ambassador to Moldova Stefano De Leo informed President Mihai Ghimpu that humanitarian assistance had been already sent to Moldova and would reach the country soon. "The Italian Civil Protection National Service has a rich experience of constructing dwellings for calamity victims. If Moldova's authorities submit an official request to Italy's leadership to this effect, the country is likely to provide concrete assistance for the flood victims," the Italian diplomat said.

Ambassador Stefano De Leo specified that, to alleviate the floods' consequences in the agricultural sector, the Italian side could contribute with seeds or machines to improve the situation.

President Mihai Ghimpu thanked the guests for backing Moldova's citizens in these difficult moments. He emphasized that any assistance is welcome, as this will allow abolishing the floods' impact and creating the best conditions for the victims' living before the cold season.
