Moldovan gas supplier seeks 13-per-cent increase in gas tariff
The Moldovagaz joint venture has asked the National Agency for Regulation of Energy (ANRE) to increase the gas tariff for the final consumers from 4,098 lei to 4,636 lei per 1,000 cubic metres, or by 13.1 per cent, according to a communiquй by the ANRE.
Moldovagaz explained the demand by the increase in the price of Russian gas from 262.95 dollars for 1,000 cubic metres to 293.8 dollars (by 11 per cent) starting from 1 January 2011. The new gas acquisition price was set on the basis of an additional agreement to a contract between Moldovagaz and Russia s gas giant Gazprom.
The ANRE is checking and analyzing materials and calculations presented by the gas provider. The new gas tariffs are likely to be established on 14-20 January.
In mid-January 2010, the National Agency for Regulation of Energy increased the gas tariffs by 13.9 per cent on average, including by 16.5 per cent for households. Four months later, on 14 May, the tariffs hiked by 14.1 per cent on average.
