Moldovan premier meets Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh counterparts in St Petersburg
Prime Minister Vlad Filat had meetings with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov and Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov, the government's communications and press relations department has said.
Discussing Moldova-Russian bilateral relations, Vlad Filat and Vladimir Putin reviewed the actions taken after the previous meeting between the two prime ministers, and discussed what needs to be further undertaken.
Vladimir Putin reiterated Russia's support for Moldova and willingness to construct relations based on strategic partnership.
The two prime ministers also discussed aspects of the social protection of Moldovans working in Russia, as well as the cooperation between enterprises from the two countries. Vlad Filat and Vladimir Putin stressed that solutions to all the emerging problems should be identified by dialogue.
Vlad Filat appreciated the constructive and pragmatic character of the dialogue with his Russian counterpart. He specified that the latter allowed settling many important problems.
Nikolay Azarov and Vlad Filat broached the Moldovan-Ukrainian ties, including the latest events.
Referring to the situation at the border in south-eastern Moldova near the village Palanca, Vlad Filat and Nikolay Azarov agreed to establish a format of talks to constructively settle the emerged problems. The Ukrainian prime minister emphasized his country's willingness in this respect.
At a meeting with Karim Massimov, Vlad Filat underlined the importance to further develop bilateral relations, as well as the collaboration ties within international structures. The sides mentioned the OSCE's activity in the context of the Kazakh chairmanship of this organization.
Vlad Filat touched upon progress made in the Transnistrian problem settlement during the Kazakh OSCE chairmanship. He praised the support provided by Kazakhstan to Moldova to this end.
Karim Massimov reconfirmed his country's openness to the development of relations with Moldova and willingness to further contribute to identifying a solution to the Transnistrian conflict.
