Moldovan producers use EU export quotas almost completely
Moldova has used its EU wheat quota by 100% in the frame of the EU trade preferences.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, as of August 1, Moldova completely used its quota for the duty-free exports of 30 thousand tons of wheat to the EU. The maize quota was used by 95.77%; it was supplied by 944 economic entities. Moldovan producers and traders received 726 licenses and they use 88.7% of Moldova's quota. The remaining quota of Moldovan winemakers constitutes 15.68%, 614 companies have the right to export their alcoholic products to the European Union.
The barley quota was used only by 38.8%. Experts explain this circumstance by a small production volume of this grain crop.
As Infotag has already reported, the EU granted to Moldova for 2008 the quotas for the duty-free exports of 6000 thousand liters of wine, 15 thousand tons of sugar, 20 thousand tons of barley, which were used ahead of time. Proceeding from this, the quotas for 2009 increased by 25%.
After Moldova received the EU autonomous trade preferences in 2008 the trade turnover between Moldova and the EU countries increased by 23.9% and constituted US$2.9 billion or 45% of the total volume of Moldova's trade. The exports to the EU countries exceeded 820.1 million - 51.4% out of the total volume of the Moldovan exports.
