Moldova's exports to Sweden increased
Exports to Sweden increased by 7% in first quarter of 2009
The rise is due to a higher demand for Moldovan goods on the Swedish market, especially wine, agro-food production, devices and tools, acting Deputy Economics and Trade Minister Iurie Muntean said at a seminar on the Swedish market's potential.
Moldova obtained higher access to the Swedish market including due to the EU Autonomous Trade Preferences, offered to the country in January 2008. The new preferences led to the improvement of the Moldovan goods' quality which meets the European standards, Muntean stressed.
Muntean emphasized that Swedish economic agents are most of all interested in making investments in the Marculesti Free International Airport, Giurgiulesti International Free Port, Free Economic Zones.
Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Mats Aberg confirmed the increase in the demand for Moldovan wines on the Swedish market. The official described the Moldovan wine as highly qualitative.
Lion-Gri Ltd is the domestic company with the most wine exports to Sweden.
Statistics show that Sweden is among Moldova's top trade partners. During the first three months of 2009, the export of Moldovan goods to Sweden amounted to 1.4 million dollars, up by about seven per cent against the same period last year. The import of Swedish goods to Moldova stood at 4.6 million dollars, increasing by 33 per cent.
