Moldova's temperature in the "CIS economy"

The results of eight months of the CIS economic life do not differ considerably from the deplorable results for the first half-year, experts, who analyzed the data, published by the CIS Statistic Committee, came to this conclusion.

Compared with the same period of 2008, the GDP in the CIS countries dropped on the average by 9%, the industrial output - by 14% (in the first half-year of 2008 the growth constituted 6%) and only the inflation level was on the average 0% against 1% in the last year August.

Unfortunately, for the reporting period Moldova did not reach the plus temperature on any of the economic indicators, experts remarked. The economic temperature in Moldova constituted 24.6% of the last year industrial output (only Ukraine, where the recess reached 29.6%, overstripped Moldova, whereas the growth was registered in Uzbekistan (by 9.1%) and in Azerbaijan (by 3.9).

Moldova ranked the last in the volume of freight transportations, where its slippage exceeded 60%, and the volume of passenger transportations dropped by 8%. Ukraine took last, but one place. Its deficit constituted 29.6% and 6.8%, it only yielded to Russia in these indicators, where the indicators were by 6 - 4% better.

The growth of freight and passenger transportations was registered only in Tajikistan (+13.9%) and Kyrgyzstan (+6.1%).

On the average the CIS transport enterprises (excluding pipelines) carried by 20% less cargoes in January-August 2009 against the same period of 2008 and the freight turnover declined by 18%.

In retail trade turnover Moldova, which turnover decreased by 7.4%, and Kazakhstan shared the second place from the bottom. The remaining countries, except Ukraine, reached the turnover growth from 1% to 32.4% (Uzbekistan). Moldova's trade turnover constituted 12.6 billion lei.

The report by the CIS Statistic Committee shows that the prices of the industrial producers dropped on the average by 7% in the CIS countries (against January-August 2008, when they increased by 30%). The prices on industrial products in Moldova declined only by 3.7%. It partially conditioned the inflation increase, which was in Moldova by 1.1% higher than the average CIS inflation.
