New York City opens worldwide ad campaign
Content for many years to sell itself as a natural magnet for visitors from around the world, New York City has opened its first global advertising campaign.
New york Mayor Michael Bloomberg unveiled the city’s first international promotional campaign in Times Square Wednesday aimed at hitting his goal of 50 million visitors a year by 2015.
Last year, the city drew 43.8 million visitors, more than in any previous year, NYC & Company, the city’s tourism promotion agency, said.
To reach Bloomberg’s goal, plans call for billboards across the United States and Europe and broadcasting its new TV commercial in Britain, Ireland and Spain, on local TV stations in Philadelphia and Boston and on the History Channel.
George Fertitta, the chief executive of NYC & Company, said the ad placements would be worth about $30 million but would cost less than $5 million in cash because of trades.
