Nokia buys U.S. mobile ad company
Nokia Corp. said Monday it would buy U.S. cell-phone advertising company Enpocket for an undisclosed amount to accelerate its mobile advertising growth.
Nokia said the deal for the privately held Boston company would be "an important element in monetizing" new services Nokia brought into its business this summer.
Nokia bought online media-sharing Web site Twango in July and launched a series of phone Web services under the Ovi brand name in August that lets users download games, maps and music directly to their cell phones. "Ovi" means "door" in Finnish.
The latest acquisition is "a game-changing move to bring the reach and depth of Nokia to organize the market across the world, and make it easier for an ecosystem to develop," Chief Technology Officer Tero Ojanpera said.
Nokia said it expected to close the deal by December. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
