Over 100 Moldovan SME compete for Japanese grant
During the last months over 100 small and medium enterprises submitted their applications for the financing of their production at the cost of the Japanese grant. The total sum of the requested financial resources exceeded 182.3 million lei ($15.5 million) that exceeds nine-fold the sum, envisaged by the fifth tranche of the grant.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the results of the selection will be declared before April 15.
Most often small and medium enterprises requested financial resources for purchasing equipment for the storage of fruits and vegetables, poultry and cattle breeding, metal working and producing building materials, wood working and rendering various services. The most active business people are from Hincesti, Ialoveni, Orhei, Anenii Noi, Straseni, Causeni and Criuleni raions.
The Ministry of Economy considers, when small and medium enterprises are selected for participating in the grant program, the reference is given to those, whose production is oriented mainly for exports and is situated in the rural area.
The equipment is granted on the basis of non-interest-bearing leasing. The beneficiary may pay immediately 25% of its value. If 60% of the equipment is paid in time, the state pays the remaining 40%. The licensing agreement is concluded for one year.
By this moment the Japanese Government released four tranches to Moldova, designed for the development of small and medium enterprises in the amount of $2.9 million, $3.4 million, $2.6 million, and $3 million. In the frames of the fifth tranche the equipment price will vary from 500 thousand lei to 2.5 million lei. All the purchases will be made by the Crown Agents private company, which had been selected by the Moldovan Government. The company cooperates with the World Bank (WB), the European Commission, the United Nations, regional banks, the Governments of the Great Britain, Japan and the USA.
