Quota for Moldovans' legal employment in Italy: 5,200 jobs
Last Monday, the Italian authorities began accepting applications and accompanying documents for obtaining employment permits within the framework of the Decree on labor flow regulation, which envisages the official employment of about 100 thousand foreigners from extra-EU countries in 2011.
According to the Italian mass media, the authorities have allocated for Moldova a quota of 5,200 such permits, which may seem good compared to e.g. Ukraine, whose quota is only 1.8 thousand.
According to the established rules, Italian employers wishing to hire Moldovans are supposed to get registered with the Italian Interior Ministry's portal, to fill in a corresponding form with an indication of the employer's own data, the worker's data, and terms of employment contract. The form filling period will last till the end of the month.
Next phase will be the sending of filled forms. This will be done also via the Internet in three stages: on January 31 the employers will send in inquiries for foreigners from countries enjoying such quotas; February 2 - for foreigners working in the domestic sector but having no quotas; and February 3 - for all the rest categories of foreigners.
Inquiries are accepted in a chronological sequence. In case of a positive reply, the next stage (in several months' time) will be the opening of a labor visa at the Italian Consulate in a country concerned.
Infotag's dossier: In 2010, nearly 26 thousand Moldovans applied for legalization at the Italian labor market. According to official data, there are some 130 thousand citizens of the Republic of Moldova working in Italy, and according to unofficial data - over 200 thousand.
