The repair works at the gas pipe in Transnistria damaged on Wednesday morning, April 1, will last for about three days. President of Moldovagaz, Alexandr Gusev, stated this in a press conference.

According to the official, the gas deliveries to Turkey, Macedonia, Greece and Bulgaria were affected due to the explosion. “The gas transit to these countries reduced by about 50%, but following the repair works these countries will be supplied with the necessary volume of gas”, stated Gusev.

Moldovagaz representatives note that most probably the explosion was caused by some technical problems. At the same time, according to Alexandr Gusev, the gas pipe was inaugurated in 1987 and has a service life term of 40. “It can be said that this gas pipe is practically new. So we exclude the supposition that the explosion might have happened because it is old”, the cited source noted.

“The cause of the explosion will be determined after the investigations currently carried out by the “Tiraspoltransgaz” representatives in cooperation with Moldovagaz specialists”, added Gusev.

A similar accident produced in 1989 with the Ananiev-Cernauti-Pogoroceni gas pipe. Annually approximately 21 bn cubic meters of gas transit Moldova to the Balkans.
