Russia - main sales market of Moldovan wines
Agriculture and Food Minister Vasile Bumacov has said that there were no official information confirming the prohibition of Moldovan wines on the Russian market.
The minister has told the Adevarul newspaper that the Russian sanitary authorities had introduced a ban on eight consignments of wines. "It is not about companies, as the media says, but about eight consignments of wines. At the same time, we do not have official information from Russia. We hope to get more information tomorrow, so as to elucidate the case," Bumacov said.
According to some information from Moldovan media, seven wine-making companies had been obliged to temporarily suspend wine exports to Russia. Furthermore, the Russian sanitary service Rospotrebnadzor prohibited the companies Erdin and Moro to import Moldovan wine.
Last week, the Russian sanitary service announced that 394 consignments of bottled wine (1.56 million litres), 38 consignments of cognac (109,900 liters) and 27 consignments of bulk wine (611,400 litres) were exported from Moldova to Russia in early 2011.
Rospotrebnadzor also said that it rejected 2.2 million litres of alcoholic beverages from Moldova in 2010. This figure accounts for 0.7 per cent of those 309 million litres of wine exported to the Russian market by Moldovan companies. The Rospotrebnadzor data show that Moldovan enterprises exported 117 million litres of bottled wine, 34 litres of bulk cognac and 157 million litres of bulk wine in 2010.
