Russian investment in Moldova at 1.3bn lei
The investments made by Russian companies in Moldova came to 1.3 billion lei (US$125 million). According to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, 296 Russian companies work in Moldova at present. Their registered capital is US$177.4 million.
Russia is Moldova’s second most important trade partner. Trade between Russia and Moldova over January-November 2008 was US$875.8 million. The balance-of-trade deficit was US$281.4 million, a 26.4% increase compared with the corresponding period last year.
Moldova’s exports to Russia during January-November last year were 297.2 million, up 40.7%. Imports from Russia into Moldova totaled US$578.6 million, up 33.3%.
Traditionally, Moldova exports to Russia agri-food products, wine, grapes, textiles and equipment and imports Russian energy resources, food products, beverages and tobacco, electric appliances, chemical products, etc.
