Stocks stage post-holiday rally

U.S. stock indexes opened trading Friday with a post-Thanksgiving rally and an eye to "Black Friday," the beginning of the holiday shopping season.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 91.61 points, or 0.7 percent, to 12,890.65. The Nasdaq composite gained 17.81 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2.579.96 and the Standard and Poor's 500 advanced 9.64 points, also 0.7 percent, to 1,426.41.

Crude oil futures slipped 51 cents at $96.78 a barrel.

The dollar hit a two-year low of 107.53 to the Japanese yen. The euro fell to $1.4803 from $1.4845 late Thursday.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury bond note rose to 4.04 percent from 4.01 percent late Wednesday.

Overseas, the FTSE 100 rose 0.9 percent in London, while China's Hang Seng Index rose 2.1 percent. Japanese markets were closed for a holiday.  // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
