Sweden to approve new strategy for cooperation with Moldova
In the near time Sweden will approve a new Strategy for Cooperation with Moldova. Bucharest-based Ambassador of the Swedish Kingdom to Moldova Mats Aberg said this on Monday in the course of his meeting with Moldovan Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu.
The Swedish diplomat said that the new strategy will envisage support for reforms and management improvement, assistance for developing various regions of Moldova, as well as for providing energy security of the republic.
He said that the Swedish authorities intend to increase financial assistance funds for Moldova. These funds can constitute €11 million yearly during the successive three years.
The Ambassador and the Speaker also considered the possibility of signing a three-sided Memorandum on the cooperation between the Parliaments of Moldova, Latvia and Sweden. The sides will consider details on March 28-29, 2007 in the course of a visit by Swedish Minister for International Development and Cooperation Mrs. Gunilla Carlsson to Moldova.
The Swedish Ambassador confirmed his country's stance to pursue an open doors policy for such states as Moldova and to support their striving for European integration.
Lupu thanked for the technical and financial assistance rendered to Moldova on the part of Sweden - one of Moldova's most important donors. According to him, development projects, supported and implemented by Sweden, are distinguished by high quality and very good practical results.
The Speaker spoke out for the strengthening of the legislative base between Moldova and Sweden and for the expansion of a bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue.
In this connection he transferred an invitation to his Swedish colleague to visit Moldova this year.
Lupu also requested Sweden to facilitate concluding new juridical agreement with the European Union and on the simplification of the visa regime for Moldovan citizens, new financing instrument and granting autonomous trade relations. // Infotag
