Tesco cancels exploited refund policy
British retailer Tesco has ended its return and refund
policy after thousands of customers exploited it to get free goods.
The supermarket chain had long held that if a customer were overcharged on a purchase, he would receive a refund and keep the item -- a policy the Telegraph said customers had learned to exploit.
The company discovered that people were sharing information online on Tesco's price errors.
A Tesco spokesman said the policy change, effective Feb. 26, is a reaction to the behavior of some customers, but also brings the company into conformance with industry standards.
This policy was overdue for a review and brings us into line with the rest of the industry,
he said.
