Trade surplus of US$3.7m between Moldova and CEFTA member states

Trade between Moldova and the member states of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) in 2008 ended in a positive balance of US$3.7 million, the Ministry of Economy and Trade has said.

The data were made public at a conference held to mark the end of Moldova’s presidency of the CEFTA.

Moldova’s exports to the CEFTA member states last year totaled US$14.4 million, an increase of US$6 million year on year. Imports came to US$10.7 million, up US$5 million from 2007. Moldova exported mainly to such countries as Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Albania.

The Central European Free Trade Agreement is a trade agreement between non-EU countries in Central and South-Eastern Europe. As of May, 1 2007, the parties of the CEFTA agreement are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo. Former parties are Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Their CEFTA membership ended when they joined the EU.
