Transdniestria receives US$6.3m in assistance from Russia
The Russian Federation provided over 250 million rubles (US$7 million) in financial assistance to the Transdniestrian region. The president of the Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol Evgheni Shevchuk said Thursday that the money was already transferred to the account of the Soviet.
The official told a news conference that over 230 million rubles (US$6.3 million) of the total sum will go to pay pensions for three months (January-March 2009).
Shevchuk also said that the Tiraspol administration will work out a mechanism for paying pension bonuses of US$15 to the Transdniestrian residents in 2009. According to him, about 24 million rubles (US$880,000) will be used to improve menus in children’s homes, boarding schools, asylums and maternity hospitals in the region.
The financial assistance was offered in response to the Supreme Soviet’s request.
